Tollgate Village: Small Town Atmosphere with Big City Technology

Community Overview:
With a small town atmosphere, Tollgate Village is unique among most neighborhoods. A 360-acre neighborhood located in Thompson's Station, Tennessee, south of Franklin in Williamson County, Tollgate is a new community, and although large, it’s also compact as it includes stores, restaurants, and parks within walking, biking or driving distance. Tollgate is designed as a TND (Traditional Neighborhood Development), built using a comprehensive planning system that includes a variety of home styles and land uses within a defined area.
Considered a “walkable” community, Tollgate Village has approximately 700 homes including a mix of single family homes, condominiums and town homes. |

But what sets this community apart from so many other communities is the technology behind the scenes. No longer does fiber stop at the curb, but fiber is going directly to the home.
AFL's Solution:
AFL Telecommunications assisted Crystal Clear Technologies (CCT), Tollgate’s own technology service provider, and the developers of Tollgate Village in the FTTH network design and business modeling. CCT is providing a wide range of high-tech services including high-speed internet, digital telephone service, and video service including HDTV.

To complete this high-tech system, AFL Telecommunications provided a full suite of products including FTTH electronics, fiber optic cable, optical splitters, patch panels, closures, and a fusion splicer. AFL supplied FlexLight’s G-PON to Tollgate for the core FTTH electronics. FlexLight’s Optimate platform supports the highest bit rate PON available in the industry today, with an unprecedented 2.488/1.244 Gbps in the downstream/upstream. To support video services, Flexlight’s solution was paired with a video transmitter and EDFA from Foxcom, AFL’s technology partner.
In addition to products, AFL also provided training on the methods for installing closures, and procedures for outside plant splicing and testing. Training the customer on proper techniques insures a structurally sound system.
In Conclusion
Tollgate Village is future-proofed with extra capacity built in to accommodate future growth. As technology changes, Tollgate Village will be able to smoothly make the transition and upgrade.
