Leaky Coaxial Cable (LCX)
AFL Telecommunications’ Leaky Coaxial Cables (LCX) allow radio, cellular and Wi-Fi communication in areas where free space electromagnetic radiation typically can’t reach. These cables are used in tunnels, mines, large buildings or building complexes, alongside rail lines and in underground malls to facilitate greater wireless network coverage. AFL offers a large number of options for your radiating cable applications. Key features which can be selected for your LCX cable include:

Features:
Flame Retardant: Cables are sheathed with a Low Smoke Zero Halogen jacketing material designed to meet the requirements of IEC 60332-3-10 for vertical flame spread, IEC 60754-2 for acidity of gases created during combustion, and IEC 61034-2 for smoke density. Flame Retardant Cables have been tested to MSHA’s horizontal flame spread test and can be printed with the MSHA listing when specified.
Characteristic Impedance: Impedance can be selected for 50 or 75 ohms.
Integrated Steel Support Wire: Also known as Figure 8 style cable, the support wire provides the LCX cable with higher allowable tensile loads and makes it easier to install in sloped or vertical sections. In harsh environment conditions, like mines, this integrated support wire provides some additional protection to the radiating section of the cable by absorbing some of the impact from falling rocks.
Fire Proof Layers: Layers can be added to the cable to prevent it from shorting when exposed to direct flames. With the addition of fireproof layers, the cable has passed tests at ETL to meet IEC60331-23 for 2 hours when exposed to 1150°C direct flame. This capability is crucial for an emergency wireless system which needs to remain intact during rescue situations. A ground at one place in the radiating cable has the potential to take down the entire leaky feeder system.
Size: AFL offers ½” and 1” dielectric based designs. The 1” design provide betters attenuation performance, allowing longer distances between amplifiers.
Target Application: AFL offers leaky coax cables which are optimized for certain bands of communication. LCX cables are optimized for the frequencies of 75 MHz to 900 MHz. WBLCX cables are optimized for frequency range of 800 MHz to 2.6 GHz and are specifically designed to support cellular and Wi-FI communications (IEEE 802.11)
