Alumoweld® - Aluminum-Clad Steel
Corrosion Resistance

Actual samples of A-coat galvanized, C-coat galvanized, EC grade aluminum, and Alumoweld after six years exposure in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.

The excellent corrosion resistance of Alumoweld strand, wire, fence and fasteners has been establisehd by numerous laboratory and field tests. The strength and corrosion resistance of all Alumoweld products are permanent in any environment where a pure aluminum may be used.

The Alumoweld Process
The assurance against corrosion is obtained throught he application of a thick layer of pure aluminum that is metallurgically bonded to the steel. This provides a substancial barrier for the steel core. The minimum cladding thickness is 10% of the redius of the Alumoweld wire. The cladding has a continuous, stron metallic bond to the steel core and will not crack or flake. In fact, handling damage to the product must be severe before exposure of the steel core will occur.

Conversely, thin metal coatings (such as galvanized) can be damaged to the point of steel exposure by ordinary construction methods. This results in progressive deterioration of the coating and eventual rusting of the steel.

The Proof
For 32 years ASTM International has put Alumoweld to the test. And as the results show, Alumoweld is far superior to galzanized products. (See chart above right).

The proof doesn't stop there. An independent lab also conducted a 1,000 hour salt fog test on Alumoweld, stainless steel and galvanized nails (ASTM B-117). Again, the Alumoweld products out perform the galvanized and show to be equal to the more costly stainless steel products as the illustration to the right shows. In addition, actual wire samples have been tested with six years exposure in Daytona Beach, Florida. The bottom right image confirms that results again favor the Alumoweld products over the galzanized.
