As a subsidiary of Fujikura, AFL Telecommunications is now part of a company with a long history and record of success in the telecommunications industry. Fujikura has been in business over 120 years and is one of the oldest manufacturers of cables and wires in Japan. In Fujikura's 120-year history, telecommunications has been a core business with significant contributions made to Fujikura’s growth.

In 1869, the first cable installation was accomplished between a lighthouse and a courthouse in Yokohama City, Japan, and used for a telegraph station. Approximately seven years later, in 1876, the first electric lights were powered by electricity in Japan.

Fujikura's long history started almost at the same time as the origin of the telegraph and electricity in Japan.

And the history of Japanese cable started with Fujikura over 120 years ago.
