Masatoshi Kuroda
Chairman

Masatoshi Kuroda was named Chairman of AFL Telecommunications in April of 2005. Kuroda studied Japanese Economic History in Tokyo, graduating in 1969. He joined Fujikura Ltd., working in the business-planning department for several years. From 1980 to 1985, Kuroda was assigned to the Middle East market including Egypt’s telecommunications outside plant business; Kuwait’s 340kV underground power cable project; and Saudi Arabia’s cable engineering company as Managing Director.

In 1987, Kuroda was assigned manager to the 2nd Export Department for telecommunications products including fusion splicers, optical fiber, turnkey projects, and various electronic products. Kuroda’s last 17 years with Fujikura is the history of the company’s telecom global business.

In 1996 Kuroda became a member of the AFL Board of Directors, involved both directly and indirectly with the company. In 2001 he was appointed as a member of the Fujikura Board of Directors, managing Fujikura international marketing and sales for the telecommunications and energy businesses. In 2005, Kuroda was name Chairman of AFL Telecommunications.



Jody Gallagher
President
& CEO

Gallagher was named President & CEO of AFL Telecommunications, a division of Fujikura Ltd. in 2005, after the transfer of ownership from Alcoa to Fujikura. He joined Alcoa in 1979 at Alcoa’s Rockdale, Texas operation as a financial analyst and then joined Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (aka AFL Telecommunications) in 1986 in the finance organization.

In 2003, Gallagher was named President of AFL Telecommunications where he successfully managed the business during the turbulent fall in the telecommunications market. He previously held numerous other positions within AFL Telecommunications including Vice President of the Optical Fiber Systems; National Sales Manager; and General Manager of Fiber Optic Cables.

Gallagher holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from Clarkson University and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas.



Makoto Itahashi
Counsel to the Chairman

Makoto Itahashi was named Counsel to the Chairman of AFL Telecommunications in January 2006.  Itahashi joined Fujikura Ltd. in 1991 working in the Export Department, promoting FPC’s and optical fiber worldwide. He served as manager from 2001 to 2003. In 2003, he was assigned as Manager of the Overseas Business Planning Department, responsible for setting up overseas joint venture companies mainly in China.

Itahashi received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Konan University in Japan. He received a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and a Masters of Business Administration from Ashland University in Ashland, OH.



Katsuhiko Fukuda
Chief Financial Officer

Katsuhiko Fukuda joined AFL Telecommunications as Chief Financial Officer in May 2006.

Born in Tokyo, Fukuda graduated from the School of Commerce at Waseda University in Tokyo. In April 1977, he joined Caltex Oil Japan Ltd., a joint venture of Texaco and Chevron and worked in the accounting division and crude trading division. In February 1990, Fukuda joined Fujikura Ltd.’s accounting division in Tokyo in foreign exchange control. Thereafter, he was assigned to Fujikura Thailand Ltd., a manufacturing company of electric and electronic components, and FIMT Ltd., a regional sales and finance company in Thailand.

In 1997, Fukuda went back to Japan and worked in the accounting division as manager of finance. In 2000, he was assigned as general manager of Fujikura Fiber Optics Vietnam Ltd. and in 2002, went back to Japan and worked in the corporate planning division.



Steve Althoff
Vice President – Equipment Products and Sales

Steve Althoff is Vice President of AFL's equipment products line including Fusion Splicing Systems and Noyes Test and Inspection products.

Prior to being named vice president of equipment products, Althoff held the following positions within AFL Telecommunications: GM Equipment Products; Director of North American Sales; Regional Sales Manager; Director of Sales & Product Management; GM Optical Fiber Systems; and Director of Marketing & Product Management.

Althoff holds a BS degree in Business Administration & Computer Science from Geneseo; State University of New York.



Dr. Michael Charles Booth, BSc. (Hons.), PhD.
Vice President – AFL Network Services

Dr. Michael Charles Booth is Vice President of AFL Network Services, managing network, enterprise, wireless and government service solutions. Booth has held various positions within AFL including Vice President of AFL Telecommunications’ Fiber Optic Cable and Conductor Accessories’ businesses where he was responsible for all aspects of the product line including manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and U.K. Before moving to the U.S., he was Managing Director of the Swindon, U.K. facility.

Booth joined AFL as part of AFL’s acquisition of FOCAS Ltd. in June, 2000. He joined FOCAS in 1987 as one of its 12 founding members, developing FOCAS in Europe. Booth was promoted to General Manager in 1992, Director in 1994 and then Managing Director. Booth has been instrumental in developing business for Europe and The Far East. Prior to joining FOCAS, Ltd., Dr. Booth worked with Raychem, Ltd. as an Area Sales Manager.

Dr. Booth is a graduate of Leeds University, and holds an Honors Degree in Physics and a Doctorate in Polymer Physics.



Robert Crowder
Vice President - Finance

Robert Crowder joined AFL Telecommunications as Vice President – Finance in December 2007.

Prior to joining AFL, Crowder was the Corporate Controller of KEMET Corporation in Greenville, SC serving in that position approximately three years. Prior to KEMET, Crowder held various positions with manufacturing and services companies in the United States ranging from Business Unit Controller to Controller. Crowder started his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in 1988.

Crowder holds a B.B.A. degree in Accounting from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and has successfully passed the uniformed C.P.A. examination.



Tak Kameoka
Vice President – Technology and Customer Relations

Tak Kameoka was named Vice President of Business Development for AFL Telecommunications in April 2005. Kameoka studied electronics at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan. He’s been with Fujikura almost 40 years, and has held various positions in both the telecommunications and automotive groups, including four years with AFL Telecommunications and eight years with AFL Automotive.



Steve Ferguson
General Manager – ACA Conductor Accessories
National Sales Manager – Utility Division

Steve Ferguson is General Manager of the ACA Conductor Accessories products line including electrical compression fittings, substation components, wire products and motion control systems.  Additionally, he manages the sales of all AFL products into the Utility market in North America as National Sales Manager. 

Ferguson has held various positions within AFL including Regional Sales Manager and Applications Engineering Manager.

Prior to joining AFL, he worked in various engineering, product development and management capacities primarily dealing with optical fiber cable and components and has two United States Patents (5,371,823 & 5,422,973) and one European patent (EP0675378) regarding unique optical fiber cable designs. 

Ferguson holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.



Al Swanson
General Manager – AFL's Optical Connectivity & Apparatus (OCA)

Al Swanson is General Manager of AFL's Optical Connectivity & Apparatus (OCA) business unit that manufacturers passive optical, copper, and RF interconnect products.

Prior to being named General Manager of OCA Swanson held various positions within AFL Telecommunications including Senior Market Manager – LEC, RBOC and Broadband, Senior Product Manager – Apparatus and Connecting Systems, National Sales Manager – Service Providers, and Director of Product & Marketing – OCA.

Before his tenure with AFL Telecommunications in 1996, Swanson held various positions with Siecor (now Corning Cable Systems) and Honeywell. Swanson holds a BSBA degree in Management the University of Arkansas.
